Can you share a bit about your role and what a typical day as a content creator involves?

My role is wonderfully varied. On any given day, I might be capturing moments around the grounds or editing photos and videos for promotions, social media, and the website. The days I enjoy most are when the terrace is alive with guests, families are exploring the gardens, and the atmosphere is buzzing. Those are the perfect opportunities to capture the true spirit of life at Odney.

What first sparked your interest in photography?

Like many creatives, my interest began in my younger years, both at school and at home. Any time I had the chance to use a camera, I would. Whether that meant experimenting in class or using the family point-and-shoot for random snapshots and home videos. That early curiosity quickly grew into a passion. I kept experimenting, learning and pushing my skills throughout school, eventually studying photography at university, which led me to where I am today, working for the John Lewis Partnership.

Who or what influences your creative style?

I wouldn’t say I have one single influence, but film has definitely shaped my work, giving many of my images a cinematic feel. Street and portrait photography also inspire me, influencing the way I approach composition, light and storytelling.

Which photo taken at Odney is your favourite, and why?

It has to be the parakeets image. I love it because it was such a spontaneous moment - I was simply walking back to the office when I spotted them. Parakeets are usually noisy and difficult to capture still, but there they were, perched calmly in the open, looking unexpectedly majestic.

What’s been the most memorable event you’ve captured so far?

For me, it has to be Rock the Manor. It was my first experience of the event, and what an incredible day it was. There was so much to capture - dancing, live performances and an amazing sense of community. Events like that are a dream for content creation and I really felt I was able to reflect the energy and spirit of Odney through my images that weekend.

What advice would you give to someone just beginning their photography journey?

My biggest piece of advice is to simply pick up a camera and start shooting. When I was studying, I was told there’s no right or wrong way to take a photo and I’ve always believed that. Creativity is subjective - what one person overlooks might be another person’s favourite image. So experiment, make mistakes and keep refining. Focus on subjects that excite you, try new techniques and let your style evolve naturally.

Thank you, Tom!

We look forward to sharing more conversations with our team, giving you a behind the scenes glimpse into the creativity and passion that shape life at The Odney Club each day.
